Potassium Meta Bi Sulphite is a white crystalline powder with a pungent odour. It is mainly used as an antioxidant or chemical sterilant in most of the industries.

The basic difference between PMBS and PMB food id the purity of the material and the impurities present in it. PMBS also known as commercial grade of industrial grade has purity ranging from 95% to 97%. The impurity levels of parameter such as 0.01% are not tested and mention in the specification or test report as it doesn’taffect the end use. Potassium Meta Bi is also used in photography industry, specialty chemical, pharmaceutical industry, and laboratory chemicals

On the other hand PMBS F has purity level of minimum 95%. PMBS F is going to be consumed by food industry, so the impurity of parameters such as Iron (as Fe), Lead as pb, Arsenic, Selenium, Heavy metals is tested and mention in test report and speciation. It also compulsory to get all the parameter in the range as per limits set by FASSI and other government regulatory. Potassium Meta Bi Sulphite is widely used as food preservative, in vegetables and fruit, pickles, potato chips, namkins, all fried snacks, in wine and Beer & wine industry. PMBS doesn’t have any taste and is better compared to sodium salts. The general dose of PMBS in food industry is 0.3mg to 0.7 mg per kg of food item.
