Dhanteras is heavy with mythology and is predominantly associated with Samudra Manthan or the churning of the ocean. This is considered one of the most significant events in Hindu cosmology. According to the accounts of the cosmic event, the Goddess Lakshmi came out from the ocean with a pot of gold that symbolized wealth and prosperity. Along with her came Lord Kuber, the god of wealth, and Lord Dhanvantari, regarded as the god of Ayurveda and health. Dhanvantari is said to have emerged carrying a vessel of amrita and spreading Ayurvedic knowledge worldwide.
